studymorechinese asked: I saw your post about Wenlin mandarin software - what level of chinese learner do you recommend for it and what do you like about it (vs. other products).

Thanks!

Hello Brandon,

I recommend Wenlin for all levels of Chinese learners.

If:

You want to read a Chinese text with instant translations. You want to compose a text in Chinese. You want to convert a traditional Chinese text into simplified. You have studied a new character and want to know, in which words it is used. You want to know from which components a certain character is built. You want to know the etymology of a character. You want to know the frequency of a character or word. You need a pinyin transcription with tones or numbers. You want to practise your handwriting. You want to make regex-like find and replaces fast as lightning. You need different formats as: Unicode, UTF-8, Gb, Big-5 etc. You work a lot with Chinese in Microsoft Access, Filemaker and PHP/SQl kind of ways.

Short summary of the reasons I like Wenlin : 1. phantastic ABC-dictionary 2. most elaborate Character dictionary 3. Transformations 4. List-by- function 5. Hanzi-Filter 6. Speed 7. Flashcard 8. Handwriting 9. Pronunciation 10. Wordprocessing and reading tool

On my computer Wenlin is always open!
